Pilates Matwork for wellbeing and longevity

Welcome to Restoring the Balance - Pilates Matwork for wellbeing and longevity!

Hello! I’m Anne. I’m a Body Control Pilates certified teacher, providing a range of Pilates Matwork classes in Bradford-on-Avon and the surrounding area - currently Rode, Baathford and Bowerhill, Melksham, aimed both at those new to Pilates, and those looking to improve their Pilates technique and continue to develop their abilities.

I also offer 1:1 sessions for clients who would prefer a more tailored approach, either at my home in Broughton Gifford, or at clients’ homes.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise programme based on the ‘classical’ exercises developed by Joseph Pilates during the early-mid 20th century, which helps to restore and/or maintain full range of movement at all joints in the body.

Over time, as a result of repetitive patterns of movement, or through injury, we will tend to become over-reliant on some muscle groups and under-utilise others, causing muscle imbalances, which serve to restrict our range of movement.

Pilates works holistically, to develop body awareness, through working on the deep architecture of the body, with all exercises being based on the fundamental principles of alignment, breathing and centring, to build stamina, promote relaxation, and to develop concentration, co-ordination, and our ability to perform controlled, flowing movements.

In addition to being a safe and effective method of developing our physical capabilities (strength, stamina, flexibility, balance), through strengthening the mind-body connection, Pilates also helps to support our mental wellbeing and so can be effective in the treatment of stress and anxiety.

Pilates can either be done in a studio using specially designed machines, such as reformers, or on a mat, which has the advantage of portability and accessibility. I teach Pilates Matwork.

Who is it for?

Pilates can benefit everyone - regardless of fitness level or age - with exercises adapted to meet the needs of the individual. So, it’s never too late to start – whatever your perceived level of fitness or capability!

This is particularly important as we age, and to support longer-term recovery from injury, so we can continue to enjoy full and active lives, and so maximise our healthy life expectancy.
